Unboxing: A Soldering Iron, Wire Connectors and More

Lots of boxes arrived at my house yesterday. They came just in time, as I am ready to start working on adding LED lights to my 1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

Let’s take a look at a few of the items I purchased…

The first thing was a soldering iron. Typically I order things from Amazon, hence all of the boxes, but this time I made a trip to Harbor Freight. If you have a Harbor Freight in town, their soldering iron, while less potent, is half the price of Amazon or other similar stores.

Since I got the soldering iron, and Harbor Freight was out of solder, I stopped by Lowes to pick up electrical solder.

I paid $10 for solder, so ordering on Amazon would have saved me 30%. Here is what I bought: Electrical Solder (Check Prices Now).

As I explain in the video, this is not my area of expertise, but watching several how-to videos, they discussed the pros and cons of lead vs. lead-free solder. As a beginner, I played it safe and used lead-free. You will need to make your own choice.

After these two initial buys, I got on my laptop and ordered 18 gauge wire and waterproof wire connectors from Amazon. The wire is evident, but the connectors allow me to be able to disconnect the lights if needed. I did not need waterproof for the interior install, but I will for under the hood.

Let’s take a look at the video…

Here are the items (or similar items) as discussed in the video:

That’s all for now, check back soon and I hope to write a post about putting together the LED lights for the Jeep!

Thanks for watching.
