Big news is coming for truck fans all across America as Ram extends the 10-year powertrain warranty, surprising many. After all, the automaker was set to end it by January 2nd of this year. However, both customers and dealers provided critical feedback, and most importantly, Ram listened, as quoted by KBB.

As Ram extends the 10-year powertrain warranty, it reaffirms its position as the segment leader. It covers Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, chassis cab trucks, and ProMaster for a decade or up to 100,000 miles. However, there are some details, as with any warranty. It only applies to the original owners and fleets.

Ram’s decision also places some pressure on competitors Ford and GM, which have a 5-year/60,000-mile warranty for gasoline vehicles. Heavy-duty, diesel-powered vehicles can get up to 5-year/100,000 miles.

Ram extends the 10-year powertrain warranty. What does it include?

Powertrain warranties apply to the engine, as the name states. It covers normal wear and tear occurring in the engine, transfer case, transmission, driveshaft, differentials, and axles.

This warranty applies to the models mentioned above and does not include the ProMaster EV. However, it does include the RHO trim and the 2500 Power Wagon diesel truck. Plus, the TRX won’t be included as it’s a 2027 model.

While Ram’s warranty is segment-leading, there are some cases where the competition has an advantage. For example, when analyzing Chevrolet’s warranty, we found that the warranty is transferable to a new owner, as long as it’s active.

Ram automatically converts to the 5-year/60,000-mile warranty (if it still applies) when the vehicle ownership is transferred.

On the other hand, Ford offers an extremely interesting 8-year/100,000-mile warranty on hybrids and electric vehicles, which Ram does not.

What are the brands with the best warranties?
