Is the Ford F-150 America’s Best-selling truck?

After a record year in sales, the Ford F-Series continues to earn the name of “America’s best-selling truck,” but we explain why it might not apply to the Ford F-150.

When we ask, “is the Ford F-150 America’s best-selling truck?” most people will automatically say, “yes.” After all, the F-Series is Ford’s bread and butter, and for the 49th straight year, it has proved to be the best-selling truck platform in America.

To keep up, the Ford F-Series production received a boost, consisting of 1,000 more workers to reach 50,000 more units for 2026. With that being said, it isn’t necessarily that it will improve the platform, as it had announced earlier this year.

Instead, it’s doubling down production on the best-selling platform to keep up the pace. By aiming for 50,000 more units, it has a high chance of maintaining its presence as the top seller in America.

However, Ford has always presented the F-Series platform as a whole, including the Ford F-150 and other models (such as the F-250 and F-350), and presented them as a single platform. The company doesn’t present individual model sales, except for hybrids and EVs, which has led to some questioning the validity of this argument.

In 2024, the Toyota RAV4 earned the rank of America’s best-selling vehicle, and it sparked a lot of debate. Ford even went as far as saying that the F-Series should be number one, because  it comprises many models, but under the same platform.

So, we’ve decided to analyze the Ford F-Series production to understand precisely what automakers say, and what really happens.

​Is the Ford F-150 America’s Best-selling truck? It Depends

If you read this report, you will find that the Ford F-Series sales broke records by selling 828,832 trucks in 2025. However, this includes all the F-Series vehicles.

Ford has consistently published data this way to maintain loyalty to the F-Series platform, as separating the information could potentially dethrone the F-150, as it happened in 2024.

When we analyzed the data provided by Ford, we found that it also included the production figures. This is all the vehicles they produced, but not necessarily sold.

This means that the F-150 accounts for 59% of the entire F-Series production. At the same time, Ford announced that it had sold 828,832 F-Series units. What follows is a mathematical exercise to answer the question, “is the Ford F-150 America’s Best-selling truck?” with a bit more precision.

59% of the entire F-Series sales equate to 485,313 units. So, how does that stack up to the competition? Let’s find out.

​Best-Selling Models In America In 2025

The following chart compares the Ford F-150 sales to other top sellers in America. It includes direct competitors such as the Chevy Silverado LD and the Ram 1500, along with the Toyota RAV4.

As you can see, even with the adjustment, the Ford F-150 still edges out the rest, but barely. The Toyota RAV4 had a consistently solid performance and was only 6,000 units behind our projection. Meanwhile, the Chevy Silverado was a considerable 120,000 units behind.

So, is the Ford F-150 America’s Best-selling truck? With our projections, it is, but barely. At the same time, we understand why Ford markets the F-Series platform as a whole. In that case, shouldn’t the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra be considered the same? After all, they share the same platform.

Every year, Ford has claimed that the F-Series platform is the best-seller in America. That’s not false, if you approach it from the common platform angle. However, the Ford F-150 might have more challengers than expected if we were to separate the data.
