What Is The Best Spray On Wax For Cars, Jeeps, Boats and More?

What Is The Best Spray On Wax For Cars, Jeeps, Boats and More?

There are a lot of things I enjoy doing, and one of them is waxing my vehicles to make them shine like new. I can spend hours and hours cleaning and detailing cars, Jeeps, boats, it does not matter.

Yes, it can be exhausting work, but I find great pleasure in stepping back when I am done and admiring the fact I can see my reflection in the finish. With this said, I know not everyone shares my passion for such laborious work as a three to four step detailing process that can take three to five hours or more.

This got me thinking. If someone wanted to get a nice shine on their car but does not want to spend a lot of time, what would I recommend? I would recommend a spray wax. It is quick, easy and provides a quick shine without much work. Just spray it on and wipe it off.

This leads to the question, What is the best spray on wax for cars, Jeeps, boats, etc.? from my experience the McKee’s 37 Hydro Blue SIO2 Spray is the best spray wax you can buy. It retails for $20 online. Other great choices include Meguiars Ultimate Quick Wax which retails for $8 and Ultima Paint Guard Plus coming in at $20.

For many readers, just having a list of the top three options is enough. For others, they want to know why and how I reached this conclusion. For those who want to know more, these next few paragraphs are for you.

What I Look For In A Spray Wax

The way I selected these three as the best spray on wax for cars is I thought about what everybody would want and the circumstances most people would have while waxing their cars.

I knew everybody would want good shine and gloss, that is a given. They also need to be user-friendly. People would want to easily apply the spray wax and then buff it off without too much effort. Finally, I assume that most people will need to wax their vehicles in direct sunlight.

While a professional detailer may have a workshop where they can work on the vehicle out of direct sunlight, most of us doing the job at home do not have this luxury so we need to select products that have the ability to be applied in direct sunlight.

I think this is the one that many people who recommend detailing products overlook. It is easy to suggest using professional products but if the DIY’er can no easily use the product to its full ability, there is no reason for most people to buy it.

What Is the Easiest Car Wax To Use?

Two of these products are applied and removed using the same technique. With the Meguiars Ultimate Quick Wax and Ultima Paint Guard Plus, you wash your car, dry it and then apply the spray wax.

With both of these, you simply spray on the wax lightly, wipe it on with a microfiber towel. Then once rubbed in, you can lightly buff it off with a clean microfiber towel. For the Ultima, you may not need to buff unless you see streaks.

One catch to the Ultima Paint Guard Plus

The McKee’s 37 Hydro Blue SIO2 Spray has a completely different application process. For the McKee’s spray wax, you will first wash your vehicle. Then, while it is still wet you need to spray on the wax. Then, with a strong stream of water, you use your hose to blast off the McKee’s Hydro Blue. Then you simply dry your vehicle and you are done.

Of these three products, all three are very easy. However, I give the edge to the McKee’s 37 Hydro Blue because it does not require as many steps. With the McKee’s you do not have to wipe on the product and buff it off — It is simply sprayed on, then rinse and dry.

What is the Best Spray Wax To Use In The Sun?

Dual Action (DA) Polisher

From my experience, all three products work fine when used in direct sunlight. The biggest concern when working in direct sunlight is the temperature of the vehicle.

The water may cool off the paint, but the sun can heat it up in a hurry, especially during the summer months. This heat can cause the wax to flash (dry) too quickly making it a challenge to spread properly.

Side Note: Always read the label to see what it says about the application in direct sunlight.

The Meguiars and Ultima products are wiped on and buff off while the McKee’s 37 is sprayed on and rinsed off. For this reason, the McKee’s 37 Hydro Blue’s installation process has an edge because it is quicker to apply so you do not have to work the product by wiping and buffing it off when working in direct sunlight.

With this said, there is another factor that may swing the vote a different direction.

What is that other factor? Water spots.

If you live in an area where your water leaves water spots on your vehicle, you may want to go with the Meguiars Ultimate Quick Wax. I don’t know how or why, but it has been my experience that when one of my vehicles has water spots, using the Meguiars spray has eliminated the water spots when I spray it on, wipe it down and then buff it off.

Again, I don’t know how it does it, I just know it seems to work.

So, what is the Best Spray Wax To Use In The Sun? The McKee’s 37, Meguiars and Ultima all work fine in direct sunlight. I recommend the McKee’s 37 due to the speed and ease of application.

However, for those who have water spot problems, I would recommend the Meguiars Ultimate Quick Wax Amazon Link

This leads us to our last major factor – longevity.

How Long Does A Spray Wax Last?

Best Jeep Wrangler Car Wash and Detailing Products

A spray wax can last from a few weeks to many months. It all depends on the product and the chemicals used to make the products. For the purposes of our discussion, I will speak to my experience with these three products.

Take a look at this table:

You can see, each of these products has a different longevity as to how long it provides a protective barrier to your paint.

The Ultima Paint Guard Plus has the longest expected protection time of the three products. If you do not like to wash and wax your car, and you want the longest protection the Ultima Paint Guard Plus is a great choice.

However, if you regularly wash your vehicles then either the McKee’s or Meguiars spray wax products should give adequate protection between applications. If I had to pick one over the other, my experience would go to the McKee’s because I have had water beading qualities from this spray wax for over the three months of stated protection.

So, which spray wax lasts the longest? Ultima Paint Guard Plus is the clear winner. You can also apply multiple coats if you wait a few hours between applications. This can help you get the longest lasting protection. Amazon Link

Concluding Thoughts On The Best Spray Waxes

For most people, I believe the McKee’s 37 Hydro Blue SIO2 is the best all-around spray wax on the market. It is the easiest to apply, easiest to remove and it lasts long enough to protect your vehicle between washes.

With this said, using the term “best” is a hard word to use because if your personal objectives are slanted toward one specific objective, then one of the other products may be a better choice.

If you favor long-lasting protection as the highest factor, the Ultima Paint Guard with be a top choice. If you have issues with water spots, the Meguiars Quik Wax would be a very good option.

The bottom line is that all three of these spray waxes should be on your short list of products to buy.

However, for the money, I have purchased the McKee’s 37 product and use it on all of my vehicles including the boat. I even ordered the full gallon refill because I have been letting friends try it out on their vehicles too. Amazon Link
