Mazda is a Japanese automobile manufacturer and currently sells over 24,000 vehicles per month. Mazda specializes in smaller-sized vehicles and has several different styles of vehicles, with each model being unique in its own way. So, what does Mazda offer in their SUV lineup?
Mazda offers four different SUV models: the CX-30, the CX-5, the CX-9, and the MX-30 EV. Each model has at least one fundamental difference from the other ones. The CX-30 is a sub-compact SUV, the CX-5 is a compact SUV, the CX-9 is the only full-size SUV, and the MX-30 EV is the only electric SUV.
Now you know the four different SUV models that Mazda offers, but you don’t know the details of each model. Keep reading to dig deeper into the details of each current Mazda SUV model.
Mazda CX-30 Details
The first Mazda SUV that we will talk about is the CX-30. This is one of the two standard, mid-size SUVs, the other being the CX-5. The main detail about this SUV is that it is a sub-compact SUV; it is a mid-size SUV bordering on a small SUV.
Even though it is an SUV, the CX-30’s small size and light weight help it conserve fuel. It gets 25 miles per gallon on city streets and 33 miles per gallon on highway streets when in front-wheel drive. This means that with a fuel capacity of 13.5 gallons, it can go a maximum of 445.5 miles on just one tank!
The engine on this SUV model is very impressive and contributes to such a great fuel economy. The engine is a SKYACTIV-G 2.5 Liter, 4 cylinder that gets 186 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 186 pounds per foot of torque at 4,000 rpm. This is an efficient and impressive engine, especially on such a small SUV.
The main feature of this SUV is how small it is, and that can be shown through the dimensions. The Mazda CX-30 is only 173 inches long, 70.7 inches wide, and 61.7 inches tall. The wheelbase is also only 104.4 inches. When compared to every other SUV that Mazda manufactures, except the nearly identically sized MX-30 EV, it is definitely a sub-compact SUV.
Mazda CX-5 Details
The CX-5 is the other standard, mid-size SUV that is currently available from Mazda. This SUV is the standard size SUV offered by Mazda; It is simply a compact SUV. When compared to the CX-30, it is definitely larger, but not by much. While the CX-30 is a sub-compact SUV, the CX-5 is a compact SUV. It is a powerful, classy, efficient, and sleek SUV that offers a smooth ride and an expensive experience.
The mileage of the CX-5 is pretty impressive for a mid-size SUV. When in front-wheel-drive on city streets, the Mazda CX-5 gets about 25 miles per gallon, and on highway streets, it gets 31 miles per gallon. With a fuel capacity of 14.8 gallons, this SUV can go up to 458.8 miles on just one tank of gas.
The engine on this SUV is a bit more powerful than the engine on the CX-30 because it is a larger vehicle. The engine is a SKYACTIV-G 2.5 Liter, 16-valve, 4-cylinder that gets 187 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 186 pounds per foot of torque at 4,000 rpm. This is very similar to the CX-30 but with just a bit more power.
The dimensions of this vehicle are important to be aware of when comparing it to other brands’ mid-size SUVs. The CX-5 is generally smaller than other mid-size SUVs. The Mazda CX-5 is 179.1 inches long, 83.3 inches wide, and 65.4 inches tall. The wheelbase is 106.2 inches, slightly bigger than the wheelbase of the CX-30.
Mazda CX-9 Details
The CX-9 is the only full-size SUV that Mazda offers. It has three-row seating, whereas the other models only have 2 rows. This is definitely the largest SUV model from Mazda, and it has to be with the extra interior space. Being a full-size SUV means it needs a much more powerful engine, which does not get great mileage.
The mileage on such a large SUV is not great, but it makes sense for the size of the vehicle and the demands of the engine. The CX-9 gets 22 miles per gallon on city streets and 28 miles per gallon on highway streets. With a fuel capacity of 19 gallons, this SUV can go 532 miles with one full tank.

A much bigger model requires a much more powerful engine, and the engine on the Mazda CX-9 definitely delivers. It has a powerful SKYACTIV-G 2.5 Liter, dynamic pressure turbo, 16-valve, 4-cylinder engine. It gets 227 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 310 pounds per foot of torque at 2,000 rpm.
This is easily the biggest Mazda SUV on the market, and the dimensions attest to that. The CX-9 is 199.4 inches long, 77.5 inches wide, and 67.6 inches tall. It has the largest wheelbase at 115.3 inches. This is a proper, full-size SUV with the same class and style as the smaller models.
Mazda MX-30 EV Details
The final SUV model from Mazda is the MX-30 EV. This is a very similar size to the CX-30, but it is the only electric vehicle manufactured by Mazda. It is sleek and classic while having the modern upgrades of an electric SUV.
The mileage on an electric motor is different than a mechanical engine. The Mazda MX-30 EV gets 98 miles on city streets and 85 miles on highway streets. It has a driving range of 100 miles and is known for being a reliable motor.
Instead of an engine, electric vehicles, have motors. The motor on the MX-30 EV is an AC Synchronous e-SKYACTIV motor. It gets 143 horsepower at 4,500 rpm and 200 pounds per foot of torque at 3,243 rpm. This motor is plenty powerful for the size of the car and the weight that it has to pull.
Similar to the CX-30, the Mazda MX-30 EV is a sub-compact SUV. It is only 173.3 inches long, 70.7 inches wide, and 61.5 inches tall. The wheelbase is small too at only 104.4 inches. It is small and only has two doors, but it is very modern and fully upgraded.
